Overview
Both schools now had water filters, but the public at large had no access to clean water. The water pumped from the ground in Juggowala is bitter and cannot be used for drinking or cooking. The residents who could afford, bought potable water (but unfiltered) from a truck that came by. Others just drank the water pumped from the ground.
With the cooperation of boys school principal, Mr. Amjad Khan, the foundation expanded the capacity of the filter in boys school and provided access outside the school walls for general public. Any water that accidently fell, was collected back in a pipe and used to water the school garden.
We were planning to make some announcement that clean water was now available at the site, but Mr. Amjad Khan told us it was not necessary, and he was right. The very first day, people lined up, coming on motorcycles from nearby villages with their containers and taking water home. This project was so popular, that the foundation decided to install a large capacity filtration plant in the future. In any case public access to this filter had to be closed after only 3 months of operation as it could not bear the load of the high demand.
